Sally Pang Scholarship

Honouring a Pioneer in Continence Health

Continence Health Australia is proud to announce the Sally Pang Scholarship, named in honour of Sally Pang Rippingale a trailblazer in continence health, continence nursing and a passionate advocate for community care in New South Wales.

This annual scholarship, valued at $2,000, is open to continence practitioners in New South Wales. It is funded by the NSW State Committee of Continence Health Australia, of which Sally was a long-standing and influential member.

Sally passed away in 2024, leaving behind a legacy of service, leadership, and tireless advocacy in health promotion and fundraising. This scholarship celebrates her enduring impact and supports practitioners who share her commitment to improving continence care in the community.

About Sally Pang Rippingale

Sally Pang was a visionary nurse and leader in continence health:

  • 1987: Appointed as the first funded Nurse Continence Advisor under NSW’s Home and Community Care program, based at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital.
  • 1987: Joined the Continence Promotions Group of NSW Committee, contributing to site visits and presentations across nursing homes, hospitals, and community health clinics.
  • 1987: Founded and chaired the Link Up Support Group, fostering multidisciplinary collaboration among nurses, allied health professionals, and industry representatives in continence health.
  • 1988: Completed the Nurse Continence Advisor course at Prince Henry Hospital.
  • 1989: Awarded the Churchill Fellowship to study global continence care trends, particularly in the USA and UK.
  • 1990 onward: Played a key role in establishing the NSW branch of the Continence Foundation of Australia, focusing on professional development, networking, and fundraising.

Though she retired from nursing in 1993, Sally remained deeply involved in the organisation, contributing to its growth and visibility well into the 21st century.

Her dedication helped shape continence nursing and health promotion in NSW, and her legacy continues through this scholarship.

  • Presentation: The recipient will be announced at the NSW State Professional Development Day and will deliver a presentation to attendees.

Sally Pang Rippingale Scholarship - 2025

This funding is available to support health professionals who currently work in New South Wales, Australia

 

  1. Eligibility requirements
    1. Applicants must be a health professional (ie registered nurse, (RN), physiotherapist, occupational therapist, pharmacist, GP)
    2. Applicants must be currently registered with their relevant professional registration board and supply proof with their application.
    3. Applicants must be working in New South Wales at the time of application.
    4. Applicants must be able to demonstrate an ongoing commitment to continence management and care although they are not required to be currently working solely in this area. If they are currently not working in a continence role, then the applicant needs to demonstrate their current work experience in continence health, and why they wish to further their qualifications and knowledge in continence health.
    5. Applicants are to be a Professional Member of the Continence Foundation of Australia.
       
  2. Application and offer process
  • Applicants are required to complete the scholarship application form, including answering the three written questions and providing supporting documentation and referees as required.
  • Applications are to be received no later than October 10 2025.
  • Applicants will be notified of the outcome by phone and/or email by October 17 2025.
  1. Conditions of scholarship 

    3.1. The value of the Sally Pang Rippingale scholarship is $2000 and can be used for any educational costs over the following 12 month period, including transport or accommodation to interstate or international educational events. 

3.2. The successful applicants will be required to:

  • Attend the Education Day (at no cost) on 28 November 2025 in Sydney to receive the scholarship and present a speech.
  • Provide receipts within a 12 month period outlining expenditure of the scholarship towards education.
  • Submit a 300 word report/article by 28 November 2026 with details of the education that you found most beneficial to your ongoing continence practice. This report may be modified to be published in the Continence Health Australia membership newsletter known as ‘In The News’.
